Formula 1 Austria 2026 – Travel Guide, Tips & Transfer from Vienna

The FORMULA 1 LENOVO AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX 2026 takes place from 26 to 28 June at the legendary Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria. With over 300,000 spectators across the weekend, it is one of the most popular races on the F1 calendar. The 4.318 km circuit set among the Styrian hills delivers dramatic elevation changes, thrilling overtaking and an atmosphere unlike any other.
Friday features the 1st and 2nd Free Practice sessions — the perfect chance to soak up the atmosphere before Saturday's 3rd Practice and the nail-biting Qualifying. The highlight is Sunday's Grand Prix. Support races in 2026 include Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The Red Bull Ring is roughly 200 km southwest of Vienna. By car, you reach the circuit in about 2 hours via the A2 and S6 motorways. Be aware that roadworks near the Semmering pass and around Leoben can cause delays. A valid motorway vignette is required. Alternatively, trains run from Wien Hauptbahnhof to Knittelfeld (about 2 hours 20 minutes), where free shuttle buses connect to the circuit every 20 minutes.
For the most stress-free journey, we recommend a private transfer from Vienna. Our driver picks you up at your door and takes you directly to the Red Bull Ring — no connections, no parking search, no sitting in oncoming traffic. After the race, we wait for you and drive you back to Vienna relaxed. You won't miss the podium ceremony or the champagne spray.
Tickets come in several categories. The Steiermark Grandstand offers a fantastic view of the main straight and the start, while the Red Bull Grandstand sits at one of the most exciting parts of the track — right next to the iconic bull sculpture. General Admission is the most affordable: no assigned seat, but several viewing areas to choose from. Children aged 0–14 get a free General Admission ticket when accompanied by an adult.
Camping is part of the Austrian F1 experience. This race has more of a festival atmosphere than almost any other on the calendar. If tents aren't your thing, the nearby towns of Zeltweg and Spielberg have hotels at premium prices. Graz (75 km away) offers more choice, and Vienna has the widest range of accommodation — book early.
Insider tips: Arrive as early as possible — parking at the circuit is free, but the earlier you get there, the closer you park. Print your ticket and wear it in a clear pouch around your neck. The F1 Fan Zone hosts parties and concerts every evening. Bring sunscreen, sturdy shoes and a rain poncho — the weather in the Styrian mountains can change quickly.
Make sure to try Styrian specialities: Backhendl (breaded fried chicken), pumpkin seed oil on salad, and a glass of Styrian wine. The catering areas at the Ring have a wide selection, though prices reflect the event scale.
Our tip for the return journey: book your transfer in advance. After the race, roads around the Ring are chaotic. With a reserved driver from FDF Taxi, you skip the queues and are back in Vienna while others are still sitting in traffic.
